Swa-Sembada Energi dan Air Proses Produksi Gula Tebu

Kebutuhan energi dan air proses produksi gula kristal putih (GKP) relatif besar. Sumber energi dan air pabrik gula dapat dipenuhi sendiri melalui konsep berkelanjutan dengan upaya mengoptimalkan semua potensi pabrik gula demi tercapainya peningkatan daya saing global. Pengukuran dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi, mengukur, menganalisa dan menghitung kebutuhan dan potensi energi dan air berdasarkan material input dan output produksi GKP. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis kebutuhan dan potensi energi dan air dalam proses produksi gula kristal putih (GKP). Kebutuhan dan potensi energi dan air dalam proses produksi GKP menggunakan pendekatan keseimbangan massa. Aliran energi dihitung dari segi kebutuhan energi pada kebun tebu, transportasi dan produksi gula. Material produksi meliputi bahan bakar dan listrik sebagai energi utama, dan energi tambahan yang digunakan dalam produksi bahan kimia yang digunakan dalam proses pertanian dan industri. Potensi energi diperoleh dari produk dan hasil samping sebagai energi output. Penelitian ini menilai energi input, energi output dan rasio energi selama kegiatan produksi gula. Kebutuhan energi pabrik gula 29.87 GJ/ton GKP. Total potensi energi pabrik gula 52 GJ/ton GKP. Perbandingan energi output terhadap input disebut dengan Net Energy Ratio (NER) gula sebesar 1.7 menunjukkan bahwa pabrik gula mampu menghasilkan surplus energi. Pabrik gula mebutuhkan air 5 ton/ton GKP, potensi air sebesar 9.73 ton/ton GKP, sehingga pabrik gula menghasilkan surplus air sebesar 4 ton/ton GKP.
