An IoT-Based System for Ornamental Fish Feeding and Water Quality Control Using Mamdani Fuzzy Logic

Abstract


The maintenance of ornamental fish in aquariums frequently encounters challenges in sustaining optimal water quality and consistent feeding schedules, particularly during prolonged owner absence. This study aims to develop an automated Internet of Things (IoT)-based system integrated with the Mamdani fuzzy logic method to manage feeding schedules while simultaneously monitoring water pH and temperature parameters. The system employs an ESP32 microcontroller as its central processing unit, utilizing a DS18B20 temperature sensor and a pH sensor to assess water conditions. A servo motor dispenses feed according to fuzzy logic calculations derived from temperature and pH categories. All operational data are transmitted to a Flutter-based monitoring application via Wi-Fi and stored in a MySQL database. Experimental results demonstrate the system's capability to deliver precise and timely feeding exclusively under healthy water conditions, achieving 98.7% temperature sensor accuracy and 97.5% pH sensor accuracy. The implementation confirms that IoT and fuzzy logic integration significantly enhances the efficiency of ornamental fish care systems.
